The pristine estate of San Fabiano Calcinaia rests among the verdant rolling hills of Tuscany, nestled between Castellina in Chianti and Poggibonsi. Many of the rustic buildings that are scattered throughout the 168 lush acres of vineyards and olive groves that comprise the property, some dating back to the 11th century, have been restored to reflect their former glory. Owner Guido Serio has made considerable improvements in his vineyards and renovated the winery to a state-of-the-art facility. But it was when Serio hired renowned Tuscan enologist Carlo Ferrini that the winery began its ascendancy to the elite. Ferrini, the genius credited with creating some of Tuscany’s most famous wines has been named “Wine Maker of the Year” by Gambero Rosso, Italy’s most revered wine authority. The signature wine from this prestigious estate is the perennially awarded “Super Tuscan” Cerviolo Rosso. Next comes the Chianti Classico Riserva “Cellole”, made from grapes grown on the 1,500 feet A.S.L. slopes of the 30-acre Cellole vineyard. A lush, dense, full-bodied and well-structured Chianti Classico and an opulent Chardonnay round out San Fabiano Calcinaia’s offerings.
